Swimteam practice will start Monday, May 14, 2012 for all swimmers 7 and older.  Swimmers 11 years old and older will practice Monday through Friday from 4-5 pm.  Swimmers 10 and under will practice Monday through Friday from 5-6 pm.  Swimmers 6 years old and younger will start Tuesday, May 29 and will practice Monday through Friday from 5-6 pm. 

Morning practices will start for high school students Thurday, June 21 and for middle school students, Friday June 22.  Monday, June 25 will begin the regular morning practice schedule.  Monday through Thurday: 11 and over: 7:45am-9:15am; 9-10: 9:00am-10:15am; and 8 and unders 10:00am - 11:15am. Friday is slightly different with bagel run and pancake breakfast.  The full schedule will be posted on the calendar page.

Congratulations to All Star Swimmers

Congratulations to all 14 Donaldson Run swimmers who swam at the 2011 all star meet. Here are the results:

• John Sloan placed 9th in 25 m breaststroke (24.63) and 3rd in 25 m backstroke (21.00)
• John Ford placed 4th in 25 m fly (19.93) and 8th in 25 m backstroke (21.61)
• Oliva Cox placed 13th in 50 m breaststroke (41.05) and 10th in 100 IM (1:20.44)
• Jack Storrs placed 5th in 50 m breaststroke (34.51)
• Andrew Fleckenstein placed 13th in 50 m fly (30.16) and 13th in 50 m freestyle (27.73)
• Bryan Meade placed 13th in 100 IM (1:08.73) and tied for 5th in 50 m freestyle (26.54)
• Stasi Gustafson placed 10th in 50 m backstroke (33.3)
• Max Fish placed 14th in 50 m breaststroke (32.89) and 9th in 100 IM (1:04.50)
• J. Stewart Brown placed 13th in 50 m breaststroke (32.63) and 5th in 100 IM (1:03.83)
• Christian Tiernan placed 10th in 50 m fly (28.46)
• Billy Cowden placed 15th in 50 m fly (29.04) and 9th in 50 m freestyle (25.55)
• Will Tarkenton placed 10th in 50 m backstroke (29.6)
• Ann Carpenter placed 14th in 50 m breaststroke (36.94) and 10th in 50 m freestyle (28.78)
• Lydia Carpenter placed placed 14th in 100 IM (1:11.21) and 4th in 50 m freestyle (28.36)

Swim Team Divisional Results

Host Donaldson Run had a strong showing in the NVSL Division III Individual Championships held Saturday, July 30th. In a swim meet with 5 other teams, the Thunderbolts had ten 1st place finishes, set 4 team records and had 14 swimmers qualify for the NVSL All Star meet to be held next Saturday, August 6th.

Double winners for DR were John Sloan, 8 & under boys breast and back with a team record of 20.14 and Bryan Meade, 13-14 boys IM and free with a team record of 26.37.

Single winners were Stewart Brown, 15-18 boys IM with a team record of 1:02:43, (3rd place in breast); John Ford, 8 & under boys fly, (2nd place in backstroke); Andrew Fleckenstein, 13-14 boys fly, (2nd place in free); Ann Carpenter, 15-18 girls breast (4th place in free); Stasi Gustafson, 13-14 girls back and Jack Storrs, 13-14 boys breast. A team record was also set by 2nd place finisher, Will Tarkenton, in the 15-18 boys backstroke with a time of 29.47. The records broken by Meade and Brown were previously held by the Greenwood brothers and had stood for 30 years and 24 years, respectively.

In addition to those listed above, the following swimmers also qualified for the All Star meet: Billy Cowden, 15-18 boys free and fly; Lydia Carpenter, 15-18 girls free and IM; Max Fish, 15-18 boys breast and IM; Olivia Cox, 11-12 girls breast and IM and Christian Tiernan, 15-18 boys fly.

Division III Individual Championships

Donaldson Run Swim Team is pleased to host the individual championships for Division III.  Here is some information regarding parking and logistics.

Please see the Directions page for information on how to get to Donaldson Run and surrounding roads.

Swimmer Drop Off

The swimmer drop off is located at the main entrance of the Donaldson Run parking lot. Please do not turn into the lot. Once you have dropped your swimmer, proceed to the loop at Potomac Overlook Park and return out Marcey Road to Military Road. At the light, take a right onto Military Road and a left into the Church of the Covenant Parking lot (lower level). Church of the Covenant parking is located at 2666 Military Road.

Parking

You will need a parking pass to use the main parking lot at Donaldson Run.  Each team will receive parking passes at the team rep seeding meeting on Wednesday.  On street parking is not allowed on Marcey Road near the entrance of Donaldson Run parking lot because it interferes with two way traffic.  Parking is not allowed in front of Marcey Creek Townhouse development.  Do not park on the grassy shoulders of Marcey Road. Potomac Overlook Park has limited parking for this event.  You can also park on Randolph Road near the back entrance to Potomac Overlook park and walk through the woods to Donaldson Run.

Seating

Spectator seating is on the grassy slope adjacent to the pool. Parents and spectators are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, or towels to sit on the hill.

Food

Breakfast items will be served during warm-up at divisionals starting at 7:30 am. Lunch items will be served at the snack bar at 10 am.
