Members, please be kind to the lifeguards, they are trying to keep everyone safe. Please review some of the rules the lifeguard needs to try to enforce over and above their priority of scanning the pool water making sure everyone is not in harm’s way. Understanding these rules and obeying them without confrontation will SAVE LIVES.

Pool Rules & Safety Guidelines

1. Lifeguards & Management

  • Role: Our lifeguards are certified in first aid, CPR and water rescue.
  • Communication:
    • Alert the on-stand lifeguard only for safety issues.
    • For other questions or feedback, please reach out to the Manager on duty or [email protected].
  • Adjustments: Rules may be adapted based on crowd size, weather or time of day.
  • Non-compliance: Disrespect or distractions can result in removal or ejection for the day.

2. Member Conduct & Courtesy

  • Friendly atmosphere: Please use respectful language and gestures—no profanity or abusive behavior.
  • Run freely in grass areas; walk on decks, ramps and stairs.
  • Well-behaved pets are welcome outside the fence—just choose a spot that doesn’t block pathways.
  • Feel free to use headphones for audio; if you need a louder or business call, stepping aside helps keep things peaceful.
  • Guests are welcome with a valid pass.
  • Intentional rule violations may lead to a brief suspension of privileges.

3. Age, Ability & Supervision

  • Ages 0–5: Enjoy the baby pool with an adult or designated sitter within arm’s reach.
  • Ages 5–12: After a quick swim test (60 ft freestyle + 1 min tread), children can play in shoulder-deep areas on their own.
  • Under 13 (untested): An adult should stay in the water with them.
  • Under 15 during breaks: Please clear the pools—no feet in the water.
  • Members are responsible for their children and any guests at all times.

4. Pool Decks, Walkways & Entry/Exit

  • Please walk, don’t run, on decks, ramps, stairs, bathhouses or paved walkways.
  • Keep entries, exits and decks clear so everyone can move safely.
  • No chairs in the wading pool or within 5 ft of the main pool edge.
  • Scooters, skateboards, rollerblades and hoverboards stay outside—strollers and ADA aids are always welcome.
  • For safety, let’s avoid the steep hillside near the flagpole.

5. Jumping, Diving & Special Features

  • Forward jumps are fun—just stick to designated, obstacle-free zones (no steps, ladders or seating).
  • No chicken fights, “bridge” jumps, or using bulkheads and tile peninsulas as play areas.
  • Diving:
    • Only in marked areas; avoid “NO DIVING” zones.
    • Face-first forward dives in approved deep spots when clear of others.

6. Lap Swimming & Lessons

  • Lap lanes are for laps—no swimming under or across lanes.
  • Want to practice racing starts? Our DRRA instructors can help in dedicated zones outside team practices.
  • Private lessons are welcome—when lanes are free, your instructor can request a dedicated lane.

7. Equipment, Toys & Underwater Safety

  • Allowed: Coast Guard–certified vests or puddle-jumpers (with adult within arm’s reach), pool noodles, kickboards (instruction/lap use), water-walking gear.

  • No breath-holding contests or “playing dead” underwater.
  • Please don’t hang on lane lines, ropes, peninsulas or kickboards.

8. Diving Boards

  • One user at a time; wait off-board until the previous diver clears.
  • Dive straight out and swim immediately to the nearest ladder.
  • No sitting, hanging, loitering or playing with objects on boards or in the diving area.
  • No swimming in the diving well.

9. Water Basketball

  • Use the DRRA ball only in the designated hoop area.
  • Shoot from inside the water within 10 ft of the net; no deck-to-water or cross-lane throws.
  • No dunking, hanging on the rim, or adjusting the basket.

10. Swim & Dive Practices & Events

  • During practice, patrons stay clear of pool and equipment areas.
  • During breaks, all under-15 must clear the pools.
  • At the first closure announcement (weather or contamination), all patrons exit immediately.
    • Staff remaining on-site: General Manager, Assistant Managers, coaches, team reps, lifeguards, front-desk & snack-bar staff.
    • No food or beverage sales—inside or in the parking lot—until reopening.
    • Team reps, please brief your visitors; marshals will assist with a smooth exit.

11. Inclement Weather & Water Conditions

  • Closure triggers: Thunder or lightning within 10 miles, or poor pool visibility.
  • Reopening: 30 minutes after the last thunder/lightning and clear visibility.
  • During closure:
    • Please exit—no shelter in bathhouses, snack bar or under trees.
    • If you can’t safely shelter in a vehicle, please find cover off-site.
    • Check our Twitter or website for reopening updates—phone lines are off.

12. Sanitation & Health Compliance
